If
a house divided against itself cannot stand,
Meet "E", protagonist in the "Apocalypse Near" trilogy. Our hero is introduced as an atypical city drifter asleep beneath a highway overpass. (You can read that scene by clicking here). A passerby sees him suffer a seizure. He lapses into clinical death during emergency surgery to stop a brain hemorrhage. "E" unexpectedly awakes proclaiming he has received a plan to save earth from the oncoming environmental collapse he was shown while dead. His lack of identity & amnesia beget a mystery for hospital staff who allow him use of a computer to upload his earth saving manifestos to the web in hopes of getting clues to his identity. His often comical, merry plan of 'environMENTALism' attracts a following of equally merry activists who begin to implement his inspirational ideas. However, our hero is solicited with a proposal from an alliance that also has plans for earth. This dark alliance uses trickery to try to get "E" to join their plot. This leaves our hero navigating a line between good & evil. One side of the line holds victory in saving earth by enlightening all the people. The other side seeks to save earth by killing all people. Our hero, & the film's audience must decipher whether or not this evil alliance is real, or paranoid delusion resulting from brain injury. For that matter, the audience must decipher whether the entire film is nothing more than the product of our hero's injured brain & ultimately where one delusion ends & another begins. Meanwhile, the fate of earth hangs in the balance. All this occurs amidst a love / lust story of epic proportions. What tempts "E" toward the evil side of the line? A woman, of course. What is the only thing that can bring him back? THE woman, of course.. Not just any woman , but the one who wanders his dreamworld seeking to mate with his soul. Apocalypse Near is a film that integrates documentary acts of actual environmental protest seamlessly in the film's fictional tale, because ultimately, the fate of the earth is the mission of this film. I ask you this: Does it make any difference where the delusion of a character in a film, the illusion of the film itself or the film's maker lies at a point in human history where the entire life support system of humans lies under threat of humans themselves? I mean, who's really delusional here? Lest you be fooled into thinking this may be a film of demons or aliens, (at times I wish the audience to think just that), allow me to clarify.. Apocalypse Near is a story located in an eleven dimensional universe built on binary code where the "zeros" make war on the "ones" in a quest to crash the entire system. This is a story of a fight to the DELETE! In this film I intend to travel from the mundane present condition of the earth to metaphysical reasons for this condition & tear the fabric of space-time in order to knit a new day of peace, life, liberty & pursuit of happiness. Sound
bold? Yeah, it is. I dare you to help me make this film & see
if it can do just that. That's right, I dare you.. I'll go so far
as to double dog dare you E. Haase ( 03/07/07 )
